Every so often I like to share with you a friend who inspires me, their beautiful home, their work and anything else I think you will like. Ida Hansson, otherwise known as Nordic Re-make, is an incredibly talented woman, with a seriously strong sense of style and identity within her interiors. I’ve been an avid follower of hers on Instagram for quite some time now and through that funny online connection with the world we have become friends. Despite much of her writing being in Swedish and sadly I don’t speak a word, the inspiration she creates transcends language barriers (and of course there’s always Google Translate!), her images are addictive, the details and subtle colours, her originality and just the overall feeling you get from her work.
I hope you enjoy this little insight into her home and design projects…
Where is home and have you always lived there?
I live in Umeå, in the north of Sweden. I moved up here 14 years ago when I started my Police Education. After two years in University I started to work in the Police here in town.
I´m married to the love of my life – Martin (also Police) and we have 3 children.
What is and how would you describe your job? Has this always been your profession?
About a year ago I decided to start my own company Nordic Re-make Interior full time, so I quit my Police job after 11 years. Since then I have worked as an Interior Stylist, Creative doer and Influencer, and have done a lot of different funny things the last year, everything as my own business.
Recently I gained a new employment and soon will move forward to a job at IKEA, where I will work as an Interior Designer for their customers. I look forward to meeting my new colleagues and see myself develop in this new career!
Huge congratulations Ida, what an amazing achievement to gain such a sought after job ♡
How long have you lived in your house and what kind of condition was it in when you bought it?
We have lived here for 3 1/2 years now, I love our little old house.
It had so much to do! Our house is over 100 years old and was not renovated, but that was the best part of it. Room after room have been transformed all by ourselves, with a lot of care and love, to save the old soul, like the wooden floors that we found under the plastic carpets.
You’ve done a completely wonderful job, what is your most favourite thing about your home?
I love the harmony in our house. It’s so peaceful in here and I love to stay at home at the weekends, just eating a big breakfast and relaxing …or starting some new projects of course!
You use a very beautiful, identifiable signature colour palette, how did you arrive at these colours/tones?
I think our old house gave me the inspiration to use this colour palette and to create my interior style. Soft, dusty colours are my favorites, especially pink, that is my favorite since I was a little girl. I love Nordic Interior Design and solid materials, which go perfectly with these colours.
Which would you say is your favourite room in the house and why?
Our kitchen is my all day favorite room, often I walk down here in the morning and stay all the day. I just love everything about it!
Your kitchen is one of the things that first caught my eye when I found you on Instagram. It looks like a lovely place to hang out with friends and family.
Where do you think your love for Interior Design came from?
I think I have always been creative but for the last ten years I have been even more interested in Interior Design. I love to put different things, colours and materials together, to make a completeness and harmony in every room.
What inspires you?
I get a lot of inspiration from Instagram, especially from minimalistic interiors with focus on colours. I even find inspiration just in my life, visiting old houses or a walk in the forest.
This amazing mini work bench is in one of Ida’s children’s rooms. Isn’t it just lovely.
Can you share some of your favourite brands?
Fine Little Day, Littlephant, Muuto and Ferm Living are my favorite brands. And Ikea of course!
What’s on your wishlist for your house right now?
I wish for a big, fresh, practical hallway…our is so small.
A massive thank you to Ida for sharing her home with us, as well as ber beautiful images. I hope you’ve enjoyed this insight into the world of such an inspiring and talented lady.
What are your favourite details? I’m completely in love with Nordic Re-make’s signature colour palette, as well as the overall sense of calm Ida’s home exudes.
