About Alice

Alice in Scandiland is an independent homeware shop in Lostwithiel, Cornwall, and online. We mix contemporary Scandinavian-inspired design, pieces from independent makers and vintage finds: thoughtful, beautiful things for everyday living.

Hello, I'm Alice

Cornwall is where I was born and have lived all my life. It shapes everything I do, from my morning swims in the sea, where I have some of my best ideas (or, if I'm lucky, quiet my racing mind completely), to the colours and materials I'm drawn to.

Alice in Scandiland started as a blog over ten years ago, when my girls were tiny. I was documenting our home renovation and life in Cornwall, and looking for a creative outlet all of my own. To my surprise, people started following along, and in 2017 I won Best Design Inspiration at the Amara Interior Blog Awards.

In March 2018 I started selling vintage finds from my garden shed, through Instagram. It went rather well, so, over a few glasses of wine, a plan formed to take over the shop at the front of my parents' house in Lostwithiel, the town I grew up in. Six weeks later, on 15th August 2018, after my dad and I fitted out the whole shop in four days, I opened the doors.

The shop

We were one of the first shops to mix contemporary Scandinavian-inspired homewares with vintage finds. I don't believe in trends and fads. Well-designed, practical, everyday objects are my favourite things: the pieces around your home that are so often overlooked.

The shop has changed a lot over the years and it's always evolving. Every time you visit, in store or online, there's something new to enjoy.

What you'll find

Handmade ceramics, many made exclusively for us. Swedish textiles and artwork. Utilitarian homewares made to stand the test of time and outlive the fads. Lifestyle essentials, and a few temptations, for people who value beautiful design. And the occasional vintage drop, whenever I can get away to do some sourcing.
