Grantham Gingerbread is the oldest commercially traded biscuit in the history of the UK. No other biscuit recipe predates it. First baked in Grantham in 1740 by local baker William Egglestone, it was — by all accounts — created by accident. The unexpected result that emerged from the oven proved such a hit with William’s customers that it soon became a beloved local delicacy.

Unlike traditional dark, sticky gingerbread, Grantham Gingerbread is pale, crisp, and delicately spiced. Made without treacle or syrup, it has a buttery, vanilla and honeycomb taste with a subtle hint of ginger — a unique biscuit with a story dating back to 1740.
