As a mother of two girls, the things I've chosen here are ones we have or would have loved — beautiful, lasting objects made from natural materials that feel special to give and to receive. The kind of things that get handed down, brought out for a new baby, or kept long after childhood is over.

There's something about a well-made wooden toy, a cosy woollen blanket, or an angel chime turning slowly in the window that connects to a simpler, quieter idea of childhood. Nostalgic without being sentimental. Timeless rather than of the moment.
