Oh hi there, remember me? I used to write a blog here, but these days I seem to either be too busy with the Alice in Scandiland Shop or suffering from Writer's shyness. A lot of the time an idea pops into my head, something I would like to talk about here, but by the time I've over analysed it and ripped the idea apart, I'm left wondering how anyone could be that interested anyway.
And so the weeks and months have passed.
But, today is Eula's 6th birthday and I always share some snaps of birthdays here, so I don't want to break with tradition.
Eula was thrilled with her gifts, especially this beautiful Ruby doll from MeriMeri.
Stu took the girls off to indoor climbing and I set about procrastinating, before eventually jumping into action to create the birthday table - something I do every year.
Eula was born at home, right here in front of the sofa, at a little past 10:30am. It was so wonderful to have a really calm and beautiful homebirth and I love that daily I find myself in the exact spot where I brought her into the world with my own hands.
Over the years I have gathered together party decorations which get reused for both the girls. There are a mixture of things that I have bought myself and others from collaborations with brands such as MeriMeri Party. I really would urge you to invest in some really great quality party pieces, as it is so handy to have them at your disposal. Many of these pieces are on their 3rd or 4th year's use and still look brand new - there are many more birthdays and occasions still in them I'm sure.
MeriMeri Eco Party plates in beautiful, muted pastel tones. Biodegradable and coloured with Soy dyes. In theory these are disposable, single use plates, however I gave them a wipe off after use and they look as good as new, ready for the next party.
Life has been rather busy of late and I was worried about when I would have time to make the birthday cake, something I've done almost every year since the girls were born. But then the stars aligned and I did a trade with the incredibly talented and lovely Ali of @workbyali One of her lovely cakes in exchange for store credit at my shop. Such a weight off my mind.
Ali dropped the cake off at the shop yesterday, White Chocolate and homemade Blackberry Jam - what a delicious combination. I set about bringing Eula's Moomin dreams to life, cutting out some simple Moomin print outs and making my own cake toppers.
Upturned Rosemary makes lovely and very easy trees, the whole decorating took me about 2 minutes.
Today is the first time I've used my new Fine Little Day linen table cloth. I recently added it to the range of FLD products I sell at the Alice in Scandiland Shop and I completely love it. I only have 1 left in stock, you can take a look at it here.In situ at the shop.
Eula actually took herself off to bed almost as soon as her guests arrived, I think it was a mixture of overwhelm and feeling under the weather. Half term has come just at the right time for her and a few more long and lazy pyjama mornings are needed to top up her energy tank.
We carried on without her and sadly she missed all the party food! But the fact I couldn't tempt her down with a Hotdog, and that at one point she asked if I could make everyone go home, told me that she definitely hasn't been feeling like her usual self.Nancy ate Eula's share of the party food, so there was no waste!
Sometimes simple really is best, the cake went down very well.
Thankfully the little Birthday Diva perked up just in time for cake.
Despite some ups and downs I think Eula has enjoyed the majority of the day. I am now collapsed in bed, exhausted as I've been fighting some form of viral plague for a few weeks now. Tomorrow Eula and I are going to stay in bed for as long as possible, we both really need it.
An absolutely huge thank you to Ali Green for using her wonderful, creative skills to reduce my to-do list. The cake was absolute heaven and you really must go show Ali some love, she is an incredible food/ lifestyle photographer with the knack for capturing a moment in time and the mood perfectly.
